Abstract
In addition to vasomotor symptoms, musculoskeletal pain complaints are also one of the most prevalent complaints of the peri or post menopausal women. The prevalence of musculoskeletal pain including arthralgia, muscle pain does appear to increase in women with menopausal transition and is thought to result from reduction in estrogen levels. Estrogen has significant physiologic effects on all articular tissues and muscle. Although these tissues have long been considered less responsive to estrogens or their deficiency, there are increasing evidences that estrogens influence the homeostasis of joint tissues and muscle as well as bone. This review will focus to understand epidemiology of musculoskeletal problems and its relation with estrogen reduction.
